Timothy Project: Mexico 2015 Final Update

CrossTraining Timothy Project

Ann Nerney and the team from  Cherry Hills Community Church have returned from Juarez, Mexico and share the following Timothy Project: Mexico 2015 final update. Their team received a donation of nearly 30 soccer balls and many uniform jersey’s from the Colorado Rapids via the Timothy Project.

Ann and her team were down in Juarez, for four days (9/22 – 9/26) and during that time they built a cafeteria for a middle school, freeing up the previous cafeteria which was really small to become a classroom.  The project provided 32 students a new classroom, and also enabled staff to feed the 350 students at a regular lunch shift.  Previously, the small cafeteria could only seat 20-25 students, 20 minutes at a time – this made lunch shift long – running from 10am to 3pm.

Timothy Project: Mexico 2015Originally, the Timothy Project donations were to be for this particular middle school; however, when Nerney and the team arrived things began to change. Nerney goes on to explain:

You so generously gave equipment for the school, but God had another plan.  We arrived with 150 shirts and other equipment and talked with the local pastor, Leo.  Leo explained that this school had recently received soccer balls from another donor.  He asked if we could spread the blessing to other schools.

Timothy Project: Mexico 2015 Final UpdateThe result was tremendous – Nerney and the team spread the Timothy Project donations across many different schools. So, while one school was blessed with a brand new cafeteria and classroom – the balls and uniforms were spread amongst other schools in the area.

As you can see from the photos, many teams were outfitted.  God is good!

Timothy Project: Mexico 2015 Final UpdateFor Nerney and the local leaders in Juarez, soccer has become an important tool for building and maintaining community life. Not only does it help children to be physically active and learn teamwork, but the coaches play a crucial role in their lives. Soccer helps keep children away from gang involvement and other detrimental activities.  Nerney also shared,

One other tidbit – you gave equipment last year to our Church Build.  We returned to the church for Thursday service, which includes a meal for 150 children.  Before and after, the children played with your donated equipment on the dirt field outside church.  Many children ran up with hugs – they remembered when we handed out jerseys and equipment.

Timothy Project: Mexico 2015 Final UpdateNerney and the team hope you enjoy the photos (more below) of the happy recipients of this year’s equipment.  They have expressed deep appreciation of all the support and donations received. And a final word from Nerney as a way of expressing thanks,

Without your support, we wouldn’t be able to accomplish this important task.  Bless you all!
