Jessica Gimbel has been playing soccer since she was three years old. And when she and a team of volunteers from Cherry Hills Community Church head to Juarez, Mexico later this month to help build homes for poor families, she will look to channel a bit of that inner child. The church volunteers, combined with Mission Ministries, will build a couple of homes and spend some time playing with the children in the neighborhood where they will serve. The trip from September 7 – 11 is need of prayer, and some soccer balls. Gimbel shared the team’s need in the hopes that they can give soccer balls away to the children while they are there,
We are super excited to return after handing out many cleats and soccer balls last year, we are hoping to do the same on this trip. We are in need of collecting more soccer balls to take with us to the children in Juarez. On our last trip I was able to personally play soccer with the local community kids. What an amazing and humbling experience!
In addition to building homes, Gimbel who was a part of Ann Nerney’s team last year, realize that by using soccer, they can make great inroads and relationships with the children and families in Juarez. But the conditions for playing aren’t always ideal as Gimbel knows,
Most of the time the kids play on gravel so the balls do not last very long. It is awesome, however, what kind of game you can have on gravel, and these kids are good little soccer players! On our trip last year, thanks to CrossTraining and the Timothy Project, we were able to collect and give over 100 pairs of cleats and soccer balls. This year, we are hoping to do the same and we would love to show the love of Christ by playing soccer with the children.
