CrossTraining Founder and Executive Director, Rev. Brad Kenney, has been invited to return to his alma mater, Moody Bible Institute and share about sports chaplaincy. Rev. Kenney, this past summer, shared his recently published article on sports chaplaincy with Chris McHugh, Head Soccer Coach and Instructor in the Lifetime Fitness and Sports Ministry Depart at Moody. After reading the article, McHugh saw the connection between what students are studying in the current sports ministry class. He reached to Rev. Kenney to inquire about the possibility for appearing on Skype for a class period with the students to talk about sports chaplaincy.
When Chris emailed me, I wanted to jump at the opportunity – I loved my time at Moody and have seen them train up so many folks for ministry. But as I started thinking about it – Skype is okay, but I would much rather interact with the students in person and when I looked at flights, I told him I would rather be there in person.
Rev. Kenney will meet with students and tailor his presentation on sports chaplaincy to serve as a teaching and conversation point for the class. The class features a mix of students from different cultural backgrounds and sports experience – some considering a sports ministry field of study or vocational line of work, other preparing for pastoral work.
For me, this is an opportunity to give back to the school that helped train and form me for ministry in many ways. I also am excited to see this as a practical outcome of the presentation in Baylor last year and the UK this past summer. For me, this is an opportunity to contribute to the conversation about our approaches within sports chaplaincy and how we can be more effective.
CrossTraining supporters are encouraged to pray for Rev. Kenney during his travels and his conversation with the students at Moody Bible.
