Yesterday, Major League Soccer announced that the annual MLS All-Star Game to be played July 29 would be hosted in Denver, Colorado by the Colorado Rapids and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The all-star game typically features the best players in MLS facing off against an elite international opponent. Results have usually favored the MLS-side as this Rapids article recounts.
The Rapids and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park last hosted the MLS All-Star game in 2007 when the MLS took on Scottish Premier League giant Celtic FC of Glasgow. When asked about the decision to bring the game back to Denver, MLS Commissioner Don Garber cited that the Kroenke Sports and Entertainment group put together a great bid in cooperation with Visit Denver.
Colorado Rapids Lead Chaplain, Brad Kenney who has served the Rapids since 2002, commented on the all-star game being awarded to Colorado,
The MLS All-Star game is great convergence of opportunity – from the community projects that the MLS WORKS group takes on to the exhibition on the field. We hope to be available to serve well those coming to Denver from around the league and around the world.
